WATER AND FOOD IN VENICE
The City and its Lagoon: a multi-faceted history

_

26 September 2015 – 14 February 2016
Doge’s Palace, The Doge’s Apartments

This exhibition examines the complex network of food sources that Venice developed over the centuries in order to survive and prosper. Sponsored by the UNESCO office and site “Venice and its Lagoon”, together with EXPO 2015, the show is made up of five sections that offer comprehensive coverage of life within the lagoon from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century.

Historic maps, paintings and engravings are combined with an innovative digital and multidisciplinary approach that makes use of virtual-reality reconstructions and video projections onto three-dimensional models of the lagoon. The whole forms a fascinating visit to the Venice of the time, highlighting the unique nature of the city and the constant efforts its inhabitants had to make in order to create the place we know now.

Guided tours, intended for either primary school children or those in the lower or upper classes of secondary school, are led by the researchers from the Venice Architecture Faculty who actually worked on preparing the exhibition.
