ROOM 4 – The Grimani collection of antique sculpture
Cardinal Domenico Grimani was one of the most sophisticated collectors of his time of sculpture and other antiquities, including cameos and intaglio carvings. Among the sculptures bequeathed to the Republic of Venice following his death in 1523 were these three precious marbles (along with 13 others), which were placed in the Doge’s Palace in the ‘Sala delle Teste’, so-called because of their presence.
