Differently adjusted according to the kind of public and age level, the guided tours conceived by the MUVE Education Dpt are focused on the artistic relations between Venice and the Flemish world from Titian to Rubens, and provide the opportunity not only to admire famous masterpieces but also to make sense of interconnections in history, painting, economy, music, the applied arts and much more. The exhibition can be visited using the ticket for the Museums of Piazza San Marco (therefore also the Doge’s Palace and Museo Correr) and this increases the possibilities of integration and interaction.
The Exhibition & the Doge’s Palace
Titian, portrait painter and favourite artists of emperors and powerful men, was undoubtedly the author of the international success of Venetian painting, which in the sixteenth century expanded in Europe and became a model of inspiration for all Flemish artists. The guided tour in the exhibition allows participants to observe this influence closely, thanks to the simultaneous presence of works by Venetian and Flemish masters. It also provides an opportunity to understand the ties and mutual influences between the two “golden ages” of Venice in the sixteenth century and Flanders in the seventeenth, and offers the very rare possibility of comparing different artistic expressions: from painting to music, from the applied arts to drawing. The itinerary continues in the most important institutional rooms of the palazzo, which were superbly decorated by the artists of the mature Venetian Renaissance.

Renaissance and golden ages: a journey through masterpieces in the museums and exhibition
From the fourteenth century, a “regular” marine service connected Venice and Flanders, facilitating a close network of relationships, among which artistic ones were of particular importance, giving rise to exceptional results. The exhibition is accessibile with the ticket of “the Museums of Saint Mark’square” including entrance also to the Museo Correr. Here the picture gallery shows works by Italian Renaissance artists strongly influenced by Flemish art, starting with Antonello da Messina – who in Venice had fruitful dealings with “colleagues” like the Bellini dynasty – and continuing with Cosmè Tura and many others. There are also works by leading Flemish artists. The guided tour starts with a selective circuit amongst these works at the Correr, before moving on to the Doge’s Palace, where it will be possible to retrace the history of this magnificent, intense melting pot of exchanges and relationships, both with a visit to the exhibition and by passing through the Magistrato alle Leggi room, where other splendid works by sixteenth-century Flemish masters are on display. The itinerary then continues in the most important institutional rooms of the palazzo, which were superbly decorated by the artists of the mature Venetian Renaissance.
