Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia promotes cultural itineraries to discover the heritage, the history of the city of Venice and its Museums. The proposals of “Museums and more” project are aimed at enhancing the museum offer in the context of thematic paths involving different districts with dialogues between the permanent collections and the life and history of the city.
The itineraries are organized and conducted by the official Venice guides who are qualified to provide the visitor with an excellent service and meet the different needs and expectations of the public.
“Museums and more” is part of #EnjoyRespectVenezia campaign launched by City of Venice.

Venice and the Theatre: city walk and visit to the historic home of Carlo Goldoni
Entering the enchanting home of eighteenth-century comic playwright Carlo Goldoni feels like walking onto a stage. Surrounded by masks and marionettes, you feel like you have stepped right into one of Goldoni’s comedies. After visiting Goldoni’s house, we will head across the Grand Canal using the traghetto, the traditional ferry-gondola, to continue an itinerary on foot tracing the theatrical history of Venice from past to present.

The Venetian “Risorgimento” and the struggle for liberty: city walk and Correr Museum tour
This itinerary focuses on the French and Austrian domination of Venice in the nineteenth century and the city’s part in the struggle for liberation and the reunification of Italy – the period which Italians call the Risorgimento (Resurgence). We will stroll through the areas of the city associated with the liberation movement, before heading to St Mark’s Square to visit the elegant neoclassical interiors of the Correr Museum, originally constructed as a regal residence during French and Austrian rule.

The history of Venice through the halls of the Correr Museum
This tour gives us the possibility of tracing the thousand-year-long history of the Venetian Republic just by walking through the halls of the Correr Museum and St. Mark’s Library, which are rich with objects that witnessed the splendor of the Republic, from a political point of view, as well as from the economic, cultural and social ones.
Individual Ambition and Collective Participation: Ca’ Rezzonico and the Scuola Grande dei Carmini
In order to pay for the considerable military expenses needed to fight the Turks during the seventeenth century, the Serenissima Republic conferred the noble rank to over a hundred families willing to donate copious sums of money to the state coffers. The new patricians, including the Rezzonico family, set about creating a display of splendour which was translated into magnificent architectural and decorative works. Ambitious patrons included the Scuole Grandi which, with the aid of excellent artists, erected majestic headquarters with extraordinary decorative elements.

This is a visit to discover the noble Palazzo Mocenigo and its sumptuous eighteenth-century interiors; an itinerary dedicated to fashion, furnishings, art and the aromas of the era, which has a dedicated section in the museum: this unique section aims to illustrate the history of the master perfumers, their essences and their spices. From the museum we move on to the places that were once at the centre of these important exchanges: Rialto and its markets, the important economic and financial hub, a crossroads of merchandise and traffic, frequented by merchants, nobility and commoners, a fascinating world waiting to be discovered.

Venice, Fortuny and the Belle Époque
A journey through time: a walk on the discovery of places which immediately after the end of the Venetian Republic underwent a process of modernisation of the urban fabric, with bridges built, canals filled, ancient churches demolished, and palaces emptied, transformed or sold to foreign families and famous intellectuals. And from the city to the museum: Palazzo Pesaro-Orfei, which the Spanish artist Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo transformed into both his home and his extraordinary and innovative workshop of experimentation.
